Flare Network Simulation

At this petrochemical landmark, we verified the stack heights of a four-tip emergency flare network serving three toxic and flammable production lines. Using DNV PHAST 8.0 jet-fire and dispersion models, we simulated ten relief scenarios, both lit and unlit, against nine receptor points. These ranged from LPG spheres and storage tanks to escape roads and the flare working area.

Beyond single-flare runs, we superimposed radiation from simultaneously operating tips to capture credible common-cause worst cases. We also tested cold-vent releases against ERPG and PAC toxic thresholds. The results provide a basis for zero CAPEX modification on the flare system. The only significant exceedance occurred on the tank-farm access road at operator height under simultaneous flaring. It was closed through a risk-based assessment of intermittent occupancy, upwind positioning and unobstructed escape time rather than stack redesign or shielding.
